Max FM IS BACK!

PRESS RELEASE:  MAX FM TAKES TO THE AIR WAVES FOR FIRST TIME IN 27 YEARS

On 4 July, to mark 30 years since the original radio station opened, Max FM will return to the airwaves to celebrate this memorable milestone.

Max FM, started broadcasting in Southampton on 4 July 1995 with a 28-day, Restricted Service License (RSL) as part of a campaign to bring a full time FM station to the city. The campaign continued four months later when the team launched another RSL, in addition to a full-time cable radio station based in Southampton for the local community.

Over the next three years, the station would undertake numerous RSL’s and campaigned to give Southampton a permanent FM licence. Sadly, after a lot of hard work and dedication the teams bid for that license was unsuccessful, losing out to South City Radio and in December 1998 the station closed.

To celebrate 30-years since the station came onto the air, the original radio station line up will be bringing Max FM back to life. Between 30 June and 6 July 2025, you’ll be able to catch the original Max FM presenters on the internet at www.maxfmonline.co.uk or tell your smart speaker “Alexa, play Max FM.”

With the same familiar presenters, the same style and music from the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, the weekly long internet station will be a blast from the past.

Many of the original presenters will be known, not only to local people but people across the world, with many having successful broadcasting careers over the last 30 years. Such names as Pat Sissons, Craig Hicks, Lee Moulsdale, Martin Starke, Simon Bennett, Chris Rose, Darren Shortt, Rob Stevens and Scott Mills to name a few.

So, join the team for the week, Max FM www.maxfmonline.co.uk or tell your smart speaker “Alexa, play Max FM.” between 30 June and 6 July.
